Pupils from an academy in Great Missenden are flying high after winning the chance to enjoy a helicopter visit from comedian and popular children’s author David Walliams next week.
The writer of books like Gangsta Granny and Demon Dentist will be touching down at Great Missenden CofE Combined School as part of a whistle stop tour of six schools across the country to mark World Book Day.
A staggering 9,000 schools entered the competition to receive a visit from the popular writer on his ‘Walliams Whirlwind’ tour, who announced their success with a Tweet this week:
Pupils from the school wrote more than 400 letters to David in their bid to secure his visit.
It is believed the Great Missenden school will be his first stop of the day on March 5, before he flies on to others as far afield as Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Newcastle and Edinburgh.
The children, who have been invited to dress up as book characters for the day, will be waving flags to greet him as he touches down on the school field.
David will then talk to the children in the hall, read from one of his books and then one child will have the chance to interview him.
He will also be donating 100 signed books to the school.
