The mysteries of teaching and learning in the creative arts were the centre of discussion at a free public lecture at BNU.
Professor Alison Shreeve, Head of School for Art and Design at the university gave the lecture, entitled Mystery and magic: learning and teaching in art and design.
It was described as a personal exploration of studio-based learning experiences in art and design in higher education.
It considered how tutors engage students and support them to become creative practitioners in their own right, and what happens along the way, aiming to shed light on what really goes on in the studio at the same time.
She said of the lecture: "It was lovely to see how wide the interest was in this topic and the debate could have lasted for hours.
“The opportunities to show students’ work in progress really helped to convey how magical this subject is.”
Prof Shreeve is also a Higher Education Academy National Teaching Fellow and a former Director of the Creative Learning in Practice Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching at University of the Arts London.
Her presentation was the latest in a series of free professorial public lectures to be held at Bucks New University.
