A VERY talented cast brought the funny and energetic Rock of Ages to the stage in Aylesbury last night, and they rocked.
There were no weak actors in the show, which romped its way through a host of 80s songs while following a loose plot.
The musical pokes fun at itself throughout- at the corny storyline and thrown about clichés- which makes it very funny.
At first, it is a bit of an assault on the eyes and ears- the costumes are 80s inspired, and pretty horrendous, the set is bright and gloomy in equal measure and it kicks off with Just Like Paradise and Nothin' But A Good Time.
But once you get into the spirit of it, it is fun, exciting and the singing is amazing.
Ben Richards of Footballers Wives and Holby City fame plays Stacee Jaxx with aplomb. It's hard to take your eyes off him as he prances around on stage playing the eccentric rocker, and he is also a pretty impressive singer.
The story is based around Hollywood club, The Bourbon Room, where Drew (played by Noel Sullivan) is working while aspiring to be a rock star.
Sherrie Christian (played by Cordelia Farnworth) arrives from Kansas looking to be an actor, and starts working at the bar, and with whom Drew falls head over heels for.
Meanwhile a German businessman called Hertz Klinemann (Jack Lord) and his son Franz (Cameron Sharp) want to buy the strip which The Bourbon Room is on to turn it into a swish, modern shopping street.
Cue a fight to save it, which is where top rockstar Stacee Jaxx and his band Arsenal agree to play a gig at the club.
Stephen Rahman-Hughes, who plays Lonny, was excellent as the narrator and was a natural on stage. He got the most laughs from the audience.
But really all the cast deserve a mention as they were all fantastic and nobody let the show down.
The audience loved it and everyone was on their feet at the end dancing to Don't Stop Believin. It feels like a party and there was a great energy in the room.
There was also a great mix of men and women- this show has something for everyone and is worth going to see.
Rock of Ages is on at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre until Saturday. It is on today at 5 and 8.30pm and tomorrow at 2.30 and 7.30pm. Tickets are £10 to £38.90 from 0844 8717607 or go to www.atgtickets.com/aylesbury.
