WYCOMBE High School has been declared the regional winner of this year’s Business, Accounting and Skills Education Competition.

Run by the Insitute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales, the competition held its Oxford regional heat in St. Hugh's College, Oxford, earlier this month.

Teams from various schools, including Abingdon School, Magdalen College School and Pangbourne College had to work carefully on a case study and then present their recommendations for the business to a board of directors. Wycombe High School's Year 13 Base Team won the competition and Abingdon School's second team were announced as runners up.

Head Teacher, Sharon Cromie said: "In today's competitive and global world, it is wonderful to see our students competing at such a high level and demonstrating they have the skills and talent to be world business leaders."

John O'Brien, Business and Economics Teacher, said: "The girls worked extremely well as a team and we are extremely proud of what the girls have achieved today. To win such a competitive heat on our first entry into the competition is nothing short of fantastic."

Student Erin Lockyear added: "It was a very tough challenge and we found it really difficult to complete in the given time. When we found out we had won, we were shocked but absolutely delighted', she said. Student Henna Hussain added: 'It was such a good experience and to win just made it even better."

Wycombe High School will now continue to the national finals in Birmingham on June 25.
