FIREFIGHTERS worked around the clock to pump water away from flood-affected homes in Marlow.

Some residents were last night forced to leave their homes as flood water continued to rise in the riverside town.

Crews from High Wycombe, Marlow, Stokenchurch, Beaconsfield, Amersham and Great Missenden have been working in shifts since Thursday afternoon to pump water away from the worst affected areas, which includes Garnet Court, Pound Lane and St Peter Street.

Firefighters said surface water is not draining away quickly enough from Garnet Court, where residents are experiencing their second flood in four weeks.

Station Manager Dean Elliott said: "Even though these properties are defended by a large number of sandbags, many of the homes would suffer considerable damage without the continuous pumping of water by fire crews around the clock."

Last night crews from Marlow, High Wycombe and Stokenchurch were working in shifts to prevent floodwater from entering two riverside properties in St Peter Street - one of which has a basement.

Marlow currently has an Environment Agency flood warning in place, meaning action is required to as flooding is expected.
