After making it safely into 2014 your humble servant is once again sitting at my writing desk putting the finishing touches to my first blog of the year.

Just a few days into the New Year and already there is a worryingly high number of crime related articles appearing on the news section of this site.

In the past four days there have been various news reports of incidents that have happened in Wycombe. Including an assault, someone was threatened with a knife, a suspected arson attack and an indecent exposure on the Rye.

What is the town coming to?

These sort of incidents are more akin to a ghetto in the Bronx rather than a historic market town nestling in the Chiltern Hills.

If this is the sort of things that happens in the first four days of a New Year then one dreads to think what the rest of the year has in store.

Crime is a worry in any society yet here in Wycombe we seem to have more than our fair share of trouble and torment.

It would be an interesting project to mark off on a map the location of all the crime incidents reported in the news section of this site through the coming year to see if there is a pattern to where the incidents occur.

One thing for sure there are notorious areas of town that seem to attract more trouble than others.

In recent times the Rye has seen more than its fair share of crime along with Frogmoor and the Desborough area.

Why should these areas be worse than others? Is it just coincidence or is crime easier to commit there?

In my opinion the courts hand out way too lenient sentences and there is too much consideration of the human rights concerns of the criminals. The rascals who are hell bent on wreaking havoc know full well they have a good change of getting away with their misdemeanour’s.

Sadly I fear there may be many more crime and disorder incidents that take place over the course of 2014.

I wonder how long it will be before news articles appear announcing that those responsible for each of the crimes given earlier have been caught and sentenced?

Despite all the money spent on CCTV incidents still take place. Of course not every inch of town can be covered with CCTV. Naturally the criminals know where there are gaps in coverage and operate there knowing they are not being monitored.

I do wish 2014 would be the year when no crime took place in Wycombe at all however I fear we have got the year off to a bad start.
