A GROUP of volunteers who have taken to the streets to try and slow down motorists were filmed by a TV crew today.
Villagers from Hughenden Valley were filmed by ITV Meridian carrying out a Community Speedwatch operation, where they note down speeding vehicles.
The scheme, which is co-ordinated by Thames Valley Police in partnership with Buckinghamshire County Council, was launched five years ago and operates in more than 30 places across the county.
ITV homed in on Hughenden after it was identified as currently being the most active Speedwatch location in Bucks.
Residents have clocked an estimated 1,600 drivers this year for exceeding the 30mph speed limit.
The trained volunteers use detection devices to monitor traffic, and then pass on details of speeding motorists to police who follow it up by sending out warning letters.
Today, the group of villagers- who stood in the rain in Valley Road - noted down the details of 23 speeding drivers in about an hour.
They said this was fewer than usual. Janet Blake, county council cabinet member for Planning and Transportation, was also interviewed by ITV as part of the news feature.
She said: "I am pleased to see this initiative is gaining such media prominence because hopefully it will encourage motorists to drive more responsibly."
The feature is expected to be on ITV Meridian at 6pm tonight.
