Is this “carbomaniac” talk, asks Eric Alexander (Letters, Dec 6)? Briefly: Yes.

If you can’t do the global warming sums, or don’t understand the physics, then don’t make wild assumptions. The IPCC gurus you appear to worship don’t agree with you.

Ice core analyses show that our sun is a variable star which dominates climate change. The rate of temperature change by the greenhouse effect rapidly diminishes with increasing concentration for all greenhouse agents and the effect is, by its nature, subordinate to solar energy.

No amount of carbon dioxide – especially in a breathable atmosphere – can overcome this and it cannot trigger “runaway global warming”. That event awaits the red giant phase forecast for our guiding star.
