There are a lot of good things going on in Wycombe at the moment.
One particularly good thing happens to be a new temporary radio station that has taken the airwaves of Wycombe by storm.
Called 'Wycombe Sound' it is broadcasting at 87.9 on the FM band or VHF band for those with trusty historic receivers like my good self.
For the modern people out there you can even listen on the line using the newfangled internet by clicking on the listen live link on the stations website.
However the new station is only a temporary feature broadcasting on a trial basis until the 5th January 2014. If it proves to be successful hopefully the station will become a permanent feature for the people of Wycombe to enjoy.
All too often local radio station studios are out of the way however the broadcast studio of Wycombe Sound is located in an formerly empty retail unit in the complex next to the new pound discount store.
Those who pass by can look in and see the presenters 'on the air' through the glass window of the temporary studio. The fact we can see the faces of the presenters as they do their show gives the new station an edge over other stations.
Several times while on my regular lunchtime walk around the town centre this week my good self has passed by and tried to catch the presenters attention by waving but alas my efforts came to nothing.
With a diverse range of programmes on topics ranging from job opportunities at a local business which resulted in six lucky individuals gaining employment and a Friday night sports programme which last week looked behind the scenes at Wycombe Wanderers the new station encapsulates the essence of what a local radio station should be.
Already the stations page on the book of faces is attracting likes and some very favourable comments too.
Yours truly for one is determined to get behind the new station and give it my full support indeed Wycombe Sound is one of the best Christmas presents the people of Wycombe have had in recent years.
The good thing about radio as a medium is that one can leave a radio on and walk around the house listening. You can't use the internet like that.
For too long Wycombe has been without a community radio station that serves the whole population and I think the new radio station is a very positive step in the right direction.
I do hope Wycombe Sound becomes a permanent feature for the town and if it does they should keep the studio in the complex to be at the heart of the local community.
What do you think?
