THE REJUVENATION of one of Marlow’s best-loved institutions continues apace after a fundraising event pulled in over £1000 towards the cause.
Marlow Rowing Club committee member and former Wasps player Chris Lenton organised an evening of music at the Royal British Legion last month.
The gig is the latest in a flurry of fundraising events to generate funds towards the rebuilding of the riverside club, which was ravaged by fire in 2011.
A band playing a medley of hits from Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and Paul Simon entertained the 100-plus crowd who had bought tickets to the event.
Mr Lenton said "It was a great night; the band enjoyed belting great classic from the past and the crowd really enjoyed themselves. It was fantastic to raise money for Marlow Rowing Club at the same time".
The club has now been demolished and is currently at ground level, with building work on the new £2m watersports hub hampered by the discovery of asbestos on the site.
Works will begin shortly to stabilise the foundations prior to the actual rebuild commencing.
Despite a £1million Sport England grant for the new clubhouse secured in March, the club needs to find additional funds for the ambitious project.
