It has been five weeks after the new refuse collection service started in Wycombe.
Even now there are problems with the service and from what I read it would appear dustbin collection chaos reigns in parts of the town.
With missed collections still being reported the new service has turned out to be far from satisfactory.
Is it any wonder the collection deadlines are not being maintained after all the number of bins to empty at each house has increased massively thanks to this ridiculous new service.
The other week my good self had need to contact the powers that be about refuse collection.
Naturally I visited their offices in person at the end of my lunch break.
To my horror I was told there was nobody at the Queen Victoria Road offices to deal with me and my only recourse was to phone, at my own expense, a number at a building elsewhere to speak to someone who could assist.
Am I really expected to pay for the phone call myself? It seems so! You would have thought a representative would be stationed permanently in Wycombe who could deal with enquiries from the public.
In my opinion the new service is poorly thought out and not good enough. I wonder if it's possible for Wycombe to pull out of the contract and return to the previous arrangement which was far better?
Only today an article appeared on the news section of this site about a road in Booker where the bin collection has been replaced with sacks even though the previous contractor could get their lorry down the road and collect from bins. This defies belief.
Personally I would prefer to have black sacks than these daft bins after all the sacks take up far less room and cost a lot less.
Yours truly has decided not to bother with the recycling aspect of the new scheme.
By compressing my rubbish under the wheels of my car my good self can get two weeks worth of rubbish into a single bin. It may be a bit heavy but that's not my problem indeed there does not appear to be a limit on the weight of a bin.
It's about time an independent auditor looked at the newfangled collection scheme and asked the people of the town, area by area, if they are happy with it perhaps through a local referendum or vote. If the people in an area don't like the scheme then we should revert to the old ways.
Once again the people of the town have had a new scheme imposed on them and things have gone awry.
In truth it does not matter what we think as the powers that be have made their changes and we have to put up with the outcome. They know they can do what they like, when they like and we are powerless to resist.
What do you think?
