By Jove it seems the only news in Wycombe these days is bad news.
You can't imagine how sad I was to read the article that appeared in the news section of this site last Friday headlined “Shopkeeper: 'Sad state of Wycombe reason for closure'”.
It's a tragedy but after over 150 years of trading it seems the most respected shop of Hull, Loosley & Pearce is set to close.
Once occupying one of Wycombe biggest retail premises in Oxford Road they have always been associated with selling quality goods to quality people. Indeed just going through their doors was a symbol of status.
Even to this very day their business symbolises everything that is right about Wycombe.
Upon hearing the dreadful news of their closure I burst out crying and had to sit down in my arm chair for a good hour to recover.
Just look at what our town has become. It pains me to say this but Wycombe is a mere shadow of it's former self.
Is it any wonder the powers the be are trying to re-route the traffic away from the town centre?
Maybe it's best if those passing through in their cars are whisked away from the town centre and don't see the shambles modern day Wycombe has become?
The news of the latest closure comes so soon after the sudden closure of the sweet shop located close to where Pat's Flowers used to be.
It seems that shops closing down has become the order of the day and once again Wycombe is taking one step further towards the abyss.
What is most concerning is that nothing appears to be being done to halt the decline.
The powers the be seem incapable of acting and are content to let the town sleep walk towards the abyss.
Isn't it time someone spoke up to get Wycombe back on track? I think it is?
Am I a lone voice in the wilderness or are there others who feel the same as me?
Our town is so well placed with excellent transport links and facilities yet an air of despondency has set in.
It's about time there was a change of heart and the mad cap building schemes like the sports centre redevelopment and the masterplan (known by the locals as the 'disasterplan') were cancelled.
Money can be found to alter the road layout, £4m in fact, so why not divert that money to schemes that will benefit the town?
If something isn't done soon then I fear it will be too late.
Are you with me on this one? If so please leave a comment and show your support for Wycombe.
