Regular readers will know of my disliking for Halloween indeed the whole ethos of the event stands for everything that is wrong with modern society.

Once Halloween is over we can look forward to bonfire night which is not quite as bad and then it’s not long before the wonderful festival of Christmas is upon us.

While Halloween is about fright and hate Bonfire Night and Christmas are generally about fun.

However it seems that this year Bonfire Night as not fun for everyone.

Today on the news section of this site it is being reported that in the past few days fireworks have been thrown from a moving car in Chesham and in Cookham the money raised from a charity bonfire was stolen.

Why is it that someone always tries to spoil the nice things in life?

You can be sure that whatever the event there will always be someone who comes along and ruins it when everyone else is having fun.

Sadly society doesn’t seem to take the trouble makers to task and they get away with their misdemeanours.

The chances of the police catching the rascals who commit petty crime are very low and sadly the criminals are aware of this.

Come to think of it is hearing about such reviling incidents, petty as they may be, even shocking to most people? I think not.

The sad truth is that society has come to tolerate petty crime and nowadays such incidents don’t even cause a stir.

No doubt in the run up to Christmas there will be break-ins, burglaries and other thefts from the houses in the town but the criminals will most likely get away with their actions.

I say bring back the stocks the let’s see some of the rascals who ruin society locked up and on public display. Of course the Human Rights legislation brought in by the bogeymen in the EU would immediately be invoked to put pay to such humiliation.

With no hope of capture, humiliation or being brought to account the unruly element in society have the upper hand to the decent law abiding citizens come second.

By tolerating petty crime we have effectively said that to a certain extent it is morally acceptable.

What a sad society we live in. Oh well, if only my good self was in charge things would be very different.
