Chaos and confusion gripped the town in the last week thanks to the powers that be deciding to tinker with the bin collections. What a disaster it has turned out to be.
Naturally the new collection system was far more complicated that the old one resulting in the back gardens of Wycombe being invaded by a plethora of coloured bins, boxes and bags.
Outrage is so intense that I have even been contacted by one resident who has yet to receive their new recycling bins.
Under the new system we are unable to put recyclables in the black bin so what are those who are yet to receive their recycling bins supposed to do?
With so many different bins in the newfangled collection scheme is it any wonder things have gone awry?
Some residents have become confused with the new collection schedules resulting in black, blue and green bins all being put out on the same day. Of course only the black bins were emptied leaving the still full green and blue bins standing on the pavement.
A few days ago I pulled out of my drive early in the morning. As usual I stopped before driving on the highway to see if the road was clear for me to move out.
Upon pulling off there was a very funny noise coming from the front of my car. It was like a sort of squealing and scraping. ‘By George the fan belt has gone’ I thought to myself.
After travelling a few yards I stopped the vehicle and got out to see what was wrong. To my disbelief one of those dreadful brown food recycling bins was trapped under the front spoiler on my car.
I guess the bin must have been placed on the pavement outside my drive and got lodged under my car when yours truly pulled out from my drive. The bins are tough though as when pulled free there wasn’t a single scratch on it.
This incident raises two very serious health and safety points.
Firstly, why are the bins all dark in colour (i.e. black, brown, green and blue)? They just don’t show up when it's dark or dusk and I fear they are a major health and safety hazard to all.
Secondly, by having such small brown bins they are too easy to trip over or as in my case get stuck underneath cars.
Regular readers will know of my disapproval of recycling and naturally yours truly is not going to participate in the game of sorting my rubbish into different bins.
I am lucky because the magnificent dump at High Heavens is just a short drive down Clay Lane. One can literally nip around the corner to get rid of any excess rubbish that builds up. Those living on the other side of town are not so lucky.
As far as I am concerned the new collection scheme is a shambles. There are too many bins, the collection schedule is vague and the colour and small size of some of the bins is dangerous.
Once again the powers that be have shown their incapability at basic organisation and now our rubbish collection service is indeed rubbish.
If they can’t implement a simple scheme to empty the town’s bins easily and efficiently what hope is there of them solving of the other problems that are hampering Wycombe?
What do you think?
*Next Saturday I will be publishing a special blog on 'How to get the most out of your black bin'. I'm sure it will be of great interest to anyone who is fed up with overflowing bins and wants to make the system work for them rather than against them.
