DISGRACED television presenter Jimmy Savile claimed he 'owned' Stoke Mandeville Hospital during a police interview, it was revealed this week.
Details of Savile's alleged sexual abuses were made public for the first time through published transcripts. Police interviewed Savile at the hospital, where he bragged that he was in charge.
"I own this hospital, NHS runs it, I own it and that's not bad," he said.
The interview was held on October 1, 2009 at his office at the National Spinal Injuries Centre at the hospital by officers from Surrey Police when Savile was 83-years-old. It was published under the Freedom of Information Act.
The disgraced star was asked about touching a young girl 'sexually' over her clothes at a children's home in Berkshire in the 1970s, and forcing her to commit sexual acts.
Savile, who died in 2011 aged 84, told officers he was 'assaulted' by women when he worked for BBC Radio 1 and Top of the Pops, and boasted he brushed off girls 'like midges'. Therefore, he said, he had no need to chase girls.
He denied various claims put to him by police from victims, saying these had only surfaced because his accusers wanted money.
The transcripts also showed Savile was prepared to see the allegations go all the way to the Old Bailey.
He referred to himself as the 'Litigiousness', given his willingness to take people to court.
Savile insisted he had never done anything wrong and the allegations were fictional.
Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs Stoke Mandeville Hospital, said it had "no knowledge whatsoever of the police interview that took place on the hospital site in 2009."
A statement read: "Savile’s claims in that interview that he ‘owned the hospital’ were clearly not based on fact and did not reflect his relationship with the organisation.
"The independent Speaking Out investigation, established in late 2012, is undertaking a wide-ranging and thorough investigation into the activities of Jimmy Savile at Stoke Mandeville Hospital."
The Secretary Of State for Health Jeremy Hunt announced on Monday that the final reports of all the investigations will now aim to be completed by June 2014, with publication sooner if that is possible.
The trust encouraged anyone with information to contact the police or the Speaking Out investigation team on speakingoutinvestigation@buckshealthcare.nhs.uk or call 01256 345535.
