COUNCIL chiefs donned their hi-vis jackets to inspect the construction of new synthetic sports pitches at John Hampden Grammar School.
Work is underway to install the flood-lit pitches, which will replace the astro-turf facility across the road at Wycombe Sport Centre ahead of the multi-million-pound redevelopment of Handy Cross.
Wycombe District Council Leader Cllr Richard Scott, Cllr Tony Green and Cllr John Gibbs visited the school this week to run the rule over the construction – which will also include parking and changing facilities.
Cllr Scott said: “Relocating the synthetic turf pitch is another piece of jigsaw which enables us to redevelop the Handy Cross site and build a brand new sports and leisure centre.
“I have every hope that this new facility will provide a superb playing environment for clubs, schools and members of the community alike."
The firm carrying out the work, Agripower Litd, hope sportsmen and women will be able to use the new facilities before Christmas, weather permitting.
