Just when my good self thought things could not get worse for Wycombe it seems they have.
It was with great sadness that my good self read an article on a national newspaper site yesterday entitled 'Crap Towns Returns: top ten worst places in Britain'.
To my horror at number nine on the list was good old Wycombe indeed your humble servant burst out crying upon hearing the news.
To appear on the list it requires people to write and post comments to those compiling the 'crap towns list' and stating why they think a town is deserving of such a dreadful title.
I know there are those who think my good self goes too far on my blog highlighting the problems in Wycombe but let me assure yours truly only writes about things to highlight where improvement is necessary which is perfectly acceptable.
Indeed I would never write off to a third party publication to get national shame piled on the town.
As far as your humble servant is concerned those who nominated Wycombe as a crap town must be sick scum bags who, by doing what they did, are more than prepared to plumb the depths of depravity in the name of damaging the town.
So what does it mean now that Wycombe is officially one the top ten crappiest towns in the country?
Well, the price of houses (and even my very own home at Bigun Hall) are bound to fall. People will move away and a downward spiral of decline and stagnation is likely to set in.
The bestowing of such a dreadful title like being a 'crap town' is so unfair especially when things are beginning to improve.
For example have you seen the lovely hanging baskets that adorned the High Street and Desborough Road areas this year? Even the Library Gardens were a riot of colour.
Last Saturday I happened to visit the complex and to my amazement it was actually quite busy.
Things may not be as good here are they were in the 1970's but Wycombe is most definitely not deserving of being labelled as a 'crap town'.
In actual fact the label of being 'crap' should actually be bestowed on those who have discredited the town and made it a laughing stock nationally by nominating the town.
Reading the comments left about Wycombe on the 'crap towns' web site to my horror one commenter even posts defamatory messages and argues with those leaving the comments thus stoking up the resentment further. See July 26, 2013 at 2:48 pm for an example.
I feel we should all work together to get Wycombe into the 'best towns' top ten if such a thing exists.
If only the powers that be would sort the problems that blight Wycombe then it would easily be a 'best town' but alas I fear that may be too much to ask.
Maybe some positive signage should be put up to create a positive image? For a start how about installing a big board close to the motorway for all to see with the slogan 'Wycombe: where better to be?' or 'Smile, you're in High Wycombe'.
It would be interesting to know where the rascals who got the town such a dreadful title actually come from. I do hope they are not people from other towns casting votes against us for their own purposes?
What do you think?
