By Jove the time seems to be flying by quickly.
After a punishing week working on the shop floor one was completely exhausted and to be honest I'm glad the weekend has arrived.
At the end of a busy week all your humble servant wanted to do was get home but sadly my journey home on Friday evening was a nightmare.
After crawling down London Road and round Abbey Way I could at least have a chance to open out my engine as one trundled over the magnificent Abbey Way flyover.
Incidentally one carriage way in each direction of the Abbey Way flyover is still closed and have we heard why? Nope, not a dicky bird. What dreadful contempt for the motorists of the town.
Next one got stuck in Oxford Road going past the complex.
To my horror the queue for the traffic lights at the junction of West Wycombe Road and Desborough Avenue stretched right back as far as Brook Street.
Waiting patiently in the queue did at least give my engine a chance to cool down after the sprint over the flyover.
Five or maybe even six crawls later your humble servant was approaching the lights. Would you believe it but they turned red and I was left standing stationary once again but this time first in the queue.
There one sat watching each road taking its turn. Nowadays health and safety takes priority over traffic movement thus reducing efficiency at the junction.
The last car in front of me to go along the road in the direction of West Wycombe was rapidly disappearing in the distance. During all the traffic light changes not a single car went towards the West.
The the traffic coming down from Downley stopped and I knew my turn to move was about to come.
With a clear road ahead I unloaded the historic engine in my trusty motor and found myself at 30mph in under three seconds. Indeed my motor had cleared the junction but the car behind was just moving off.
Later this month on the 14th October the work is due to start on the upgrade to the junction with West Wycombe Road and Chapel Lane.
Why on earth is money being on that junction when something needs to be done to sort the tailbacks further down the road at the Desborough Avenue junction?
After looking at the videos showing simulations of the traffic flow over the proposed junction I have reservations as to whether the Chapel Lane upgrade work will in fact make any difference.
I thought they were putting a roundabout in but that does not seem to be the case.
Traffic coming from West Wycombe wanting to turn into Chapel Lane will still have to wait for oncoming vehicles to clear and those coming out of Chapel Lane and wanting to go to the west will also have to wait for the road to clear.
So what difference will there be?
Will the Chapel Lane upgrade be the biggest waste of money yet? I do hope not but I fear the worst.
The adjustments to road junctions and re-timing of lights that have happened over the past few years have, in my opinion, all been for the worse.
Only time will tell if things get better for those turning out of Chapel Lane but something needs to be done about the other bottle necks elsewhere on Wycombe's road network too.
What do you think?
