THE High Wycombe Masterplan has “not prompted” the continued part closure and investigation of the Abbey Way Flyover.

Transport for Buckinghamshire, the county council’s transportation arm, said it is still analysing the findings of a structural survey so the one lane closure in both directions of the flyover will remain in place.

TfB added: “We will be working closely with Wycombe District Council in making any decisions related to Abbey Way, and will make sure all aspirations for the High Wycombe Town Centre Masterplan are met...

“We will continue to manage the traffic implications, but to date no major congestion has been caused following the lane closures.”

Wycombe District Council said its proposals to regenerate Wycombe town centre are not a factor in the continued partial closure.

It added: “We would imagine, however, that given the circumstances Transport for Bucks is closely monitoring current traffic conditions.”

Under the mooted Masterplan, the flyover – dubbed the “Berlin Wall of Wycombe” by Cllr Hugh McCarthy – could eventually be demolished.

A new road network, linking West Wycombe Road to Marlow Hill, would be installed during phase one of the regeneration.

Abbey Way could be turned into a single-carriageway, bus-only access road for an interim period to access traffic flow during phase two before the potential demolition of the flyover during phase three from 2021.
