CUTTING EDGE: Skype Has Developed 3D Video Calls

A senior executive at Skype recently revealed that they had been developing 3D video call technology.

It could be a few years before we are able to actually use it but the announcement is still very exciting to say the least. Supposedly the issue lies around the video capture technology; cameras need to be correctly set-up and precisely calibrated to deliver a 3D video call.

Like many technological revelations, the future of it relies on the current state of technology today and how it can be used to deliver this new service. This could help boost sales of other 3D powered gadgets, which have been suffering a small dip lately.

Furthermore, Skype remain committed to delivering “super-high definition” video calls to other devices outside of the Xbox One, even possibly including the PS4. A wise move on their part I feel.

APPLE: Set To Sell 65 Million ‘iWatch’ Units In 2014

In a recent interview with the Commercial Times, an analyst suggested that the Apple ‘iWatch’ would be released in the second half of 2014, potentially selling 63.4 million units across the world in that year.

How much will it cost though? Well the same analyst feels it will sit somewhere between the price of the iPod Nano and iPod Touch at around $199; it would be too early to speculate on a precise UK price.

The suggested launch date also coincides with previous rumours and it has been claimed that the new device will use biometric technology to provide feedback on heart rate, caloric intake and the like.

This could all be displayed on either a 1.5 or 2 inch touchscreen; it hasn’t been confirmed as yet. Apple best move fast though, as Samsung’s ‘Galaxy Gear’ smart watch is coming very soon.

ANDROID: HTC One SV Review – One Superb Little Phone

The 4G network EE (Everything Everywhere) recently released the new HTC One SV, a mid-range device and little brother to the HTC flagship phone. It packs a dual-core processor, 5 megapixel camera and a 4.3 inch super LCD 2 touchscreen.

Obviously, on a specs table it’s not going to win any awards but the phone performs brilliantly. It runs on the Android based HTC Sense 4 operating system, which showed no sign of slowdown whatsoever.

Whilst not having the sexy looks of its older brother, the HTC One, the SV feels very good in the hand. Volume and power controls are placed nicely and are easy to reach at all times, most importantly though, call quality is excellent.

GADGETS: Kindle Paperwhite Review – The King Of The E-Readers?

So this isn’t the newest gadget around what with it being released in October but we recently had a chance to review it and just had to tell you how much we loved this e-reader.

Firstly a disclaimer, the Kindle Paperwhite is not meant to be a high-end multimedia tablet, it’s meant be a great device to read all your favourite stories on and boy does it deliver. The standout feature is obviously the new built-in light, which faces down onto the page to deliver crisper text.

A new feature called ‘Time To Read’ even allows you to track your reading time, very cool. The Paperwhite design is simple but it works, right out of the box this device felt great in the hand.

There was no nasty creaking of the plastic body nor did it feel cheap despite its rather affordable price tag. It makes me want to upgrade my old Kindle! Check out the full review over at I Am Geek.
