A MATERNITY ward has undergone the first stages of a major refurbishment after a Government grant worth nearly £1m.
Fifteen weeks of work has started at the Rothschild maternity ward at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, including upgrading each of the six bedded bays within the ward with an ensuite bathroom and toilet, which have improved accessibility for wheelchair users.
The unit was given £996k in January to improve and modernise the facilities for pregnant women, new mums and their families.
Audrey Warren, head of midwifery, said: "This will help to ensure women have the best possible experience during their stay on our ward, which is what we as a team constantly strive for."
