Murky world of local elections..
First I will like to add this which I shall do for every blog I enter: I give my full apologies for any grammatical and spelling errors in this blog – I was not trained in journalism nor had I a good basic education when it came to English. There will be errors and mistakes and I would have written it off the cuff.
Since I’ve now stood as an Independent candidate in a local election – my eyes have been open to just how murky our local democracy truly is..
I am not new to this as I was first elected back in 2003 when I used to be a Conservative member. However in light to what has happened during this particular election I felt that I must speak out.
Originally I was going to stand for the Booker, Cressex & Castlefield newly formed ward but one of the main reasons that I decided not to was that I heard a rumour that the election was going to be fixed (i.e. meaning that a large number of postal votes were going to be involved in order to gain a large number of votes to secure the win).
I must add that this was merely a rumour and I shall not point any fingers to any political party as I know that there is currently is a formal criminal investigation taking place.
When I started to hear stories during the campaign and also in reading the news stories on the BFP, it did not shock me at all.
In my mind Postal Votes should be for people (i.e. perhaps elderly or knowing that they will be away, etc) rather than what they have been alleged to be used for.
I would like to bring to your attention that this is the UK where we live (not that anyone wouldn’t be aware of this obvious fact..) and also this is the year 2013 AD (again another obvious point to make).
We should be a shinning beacon to the rest of the world just how a democracy works. That your vote matters and that you hold the power to choose someone to represent you in local and national Government.
However.. and I shall be very careful how I write this as I do not want to be taken to court.
There are candidates from political parties that know how to manipulate voting, specifically postal voting where it has been publicly shown as to show fraudulent activities in many parts of the UK in different forms of elections and people have gone to prison for such activities..
Yet this still this goes on and it will continue to go on until things change.
I know that the majority of people elected do so on merit (which I hope to add myself into this bracket) they knock on doors, deliver leaflets and carry out an election in a clean and decent manner.
However I know that particularly within parts of Wycombe whereby large groups of people are ‘told who to vote for’ and political parties all know what’s going on and yet they don’t do a great deal about it… This almost seems as if they turn a blind eye to this type of activity because they may gain something out of it if they continue to get away with it (i.e. bums on political seats of office..) I personally believe that one day things will change and the truth will be exposed (i.e. even Saville came out in the wash in the end..) that this murky, corrupt world that we all live in is getting smaller, we all use the internet and social media – we speak to each other – we don’t seem to be living in ignorance as we once did and controlled by the media barons and political elite – The Times They Are a-Changin sings Bob Dylan.
I have not named any individuals (alive or dead) or specific political parties in this blog. The information that has been passed to my ears are only rumour and hearsay and it would be up to the police if they were to find enough evidence for any convictions and would probably need someone to come forward to back up any claims.
I hope that someone does – otherwise it would only continue in future elections.
