Seeing the publicity for the new three-part drama ‘The Town’ staring Andrew Scott as the lead character (from Sherlock) and Martin Clunes (from Men Behaving Badly) playing the town mayor – I thought as it was filmed in Wycombe that I had better watch it.
Particularly as I was intrigued after seeing the pictures in the BFP showing Martin Clunes under the Guild Hall wearing mayoral regalia being a former mayor myself..
The Town in question is called “Renton” however anyone from Wycombe will see that its shot entirely here. Where instead of the Rover Inn or the Woolpack being the centre pub – life seems to centre around the good old Antelope!
I must admit that it was weird watching our own town on TV and I found myself chuckling at the changes that the production team made such as making our old library into the police station.
Elected Mayor..mmmMmmm maybe when we finally get a Wycombe Town Council as the rest of the County have, we can have our own Mayor that isn’t just ceremonial and who would run the much needed Council.
The acting wasn’t that bad and the plot is thickening so it would be interesting to see what the remaining two episodes unfold.
I found myself looking at the locations and thinking which part of Wycombe that they were shot in.
The way that it was filmed made everything seem bright and very leafy and I guess that we are very lucky to live in a nice part of the world where London isn’t too far away and where we are sheltered to some degree from the very bad hardships that other regions of the Country have to endure. Although I can’t say that we’ve all had it easy in these very hard times.
The plot revolves around the lead character “coming home” in his 30’s back to his old home town after living and working in London for the last 8 years.
Please watch it and let me know what you think about the program?
