MARTIN Doris May Left life peacefully on 22.8.23. Much loved wife, partner, sister, mother, grandmother and friend and academically gifted, her intelligence and loving kindness will be missed by all who knew and loved her. To Mum

Some years ago I read about a ritual in north Africa where a daughter went to her dead mother and said “please forgive me as I forgive you”. I spoke about what I had read and you also liked it.

So when you lay dying I said “please forgive me as I forgive you”

I also told you I loved you, but I forgot to thank you, so now I will.

Thank you mum for giving me life, for looking after me, for caring for me, for teaching me empathy and compassion, for showing me the beauty and wonder of the world.

For surrounding me with love and tranquility the day after you died, and when I was waking the following day, for the two different but equally lovely rainbows you sent me.

I remembered then that you would often do this with cards, sending me two different but equally lovely ones.

Thank you for the rainbows, your final gift to me.

Thank you mum, I love you.
