A secret gig by legendary punk rockers Green Day was the defining moment from this year's Reading Festival.
The band stormed the NME stage on Saturday morning, as news spread via Twitter of the intimate gig.
Limited numbers of fans were given access to the small tent, leaving the rest of the unlucky (and jealous) festival-goers to watch it on the giant screens on the main stage.
Front man Billy Joe Armstrong stormed the stage, running back and forth to whip up the excitable crowd. He brought belly-laughs galore as he dragged a loo-roll gun on stage and covered the crowd in the white paper - before spraying the crowd with a super-soaker water pistol.
Other highlights from the three-extravaganza at the festival at Little John’s Farm in Reading, were crazy metallers Trash Talk, whose singer stage dived and crowd surfed for the majority of the show.
Punks Gallows - with new frontman Wade Macneil, also delighted the revellers, who ably stepped into the boots of ex- frontman Frank Carter.
A less aggressive Frank Carter also himself rocked the NME stage with his new band Pure Love - a stark contrast to his previous role of screaming out his songs and leaping into the audience for Gallows.
He had a hard task on his hands: his first album had not yet been released, leaving the crowds unable to sing along. Frank - as ever the incredible front man - acknowledged this and showered his crowd with giant inflatable balls to keep them happy.
Headliners Kasabian and Foo Fighters were also crowd pleasers, both rattling out a succession of hits both old and new to the fans.
Despite the heavyweight headliners, the smaller stage acts also deserved a mention. Punk band Max Raptor rocked the BBC Introducing stage in style with a collection of catchy and energetic tunes, drawing in a large crowd.
Twin Atlantic's singer Sam McTrusty also provided the quintessential rock and roll moment as he smashed up his Fender guitar. And Feeder's fans were left listening from outside the tent as the venue couldn't contain the large crowds desperate to hear their hits, including Bucks Rogers and Just the Way I'm Feeling.
Another year at Reading and more momentous music moments to remember.
