Indie band Theme Park are set to play Reading Festival’s Festival Republic Stage. Victoria MacFarlaine speaks to singer Miles Haughton.

Are you excited about Reading?
Yes, really excited. That was one of the last ones (festivals) that was confirmed, and I think we were all like really happy,

Did you always dream of playing there?
Yes, I think so. It was the one that all my friends went to when we were younger.

What made you choose the name Theme Park?
Louis who used to play with us, when we were thinking of names, said 'I know of a good name, theme park. I was like why? He saw something called Jesus theme park where he would pneumatically lift up above the whole theme park and so we removed the Jesus bit. It’s hard to choose the name. I think you just decide on a name and that becomes the band.

Where would you like to be in five years time?
It’s quite far ahead! I think, hopefully we’ll be on our third album. Hopefully we’ll be quite high up on festival bills, but it’ll be fine if we can still keep going and still keep making music.

What band would you like to tour with?
We are going on tour with Bloc Party. Maybe U2 as it would be ridiculous, as they are so enormous. That would be kind of cool. At my first Reading Festival I saw Bloc Party on the main stage and that was really cool. They are one of the bands that everyone in the band has been a fan of.

What’s next for Theme Park?
We’ve just finished recording our album, so that is coming out around October. We have festivals over the summer, and we’ve got the Bloc Party tour, which takes us to the end of the year. It’s exciting.
