Wendover Theatre Society staged the pantomime billed as an Adventure in Camelot, complete with knights in realistic chain mail and elegantly dressed.
Sir Prancelot was hilarious and his ostrich costume in place of a horse cleverly made by Sally Stow was hilarious.
Both King Arthur and his love interest Guinevere were well cast. Arthur was impressive with Ashley Dodd as the young Arthur and a pretty Guinevere with a lovely voice and her rendition of ‘On My Own’ from Les Miserables was moving.
Directed by Ellen David who chose all the music and edited it herself is to be complimented on her execution. All the music was well selected to suit the scenes and added to the overall atmosphere.
The two baddies in the guise of Morgana and her nasty son Mordred were suitably scary and just the characters the audience is happy to boo.
Josh Hinge, making his stage debut as Mordred, gave a fine performance. The chorus was lively and gave their all. A special mention to the ladies, who had not danced before, but donned tap shoes to offer a credible dance routine, well done.
There was an exciting ultra violet dance which always pleases the audience and an entertaining visit to a gypsy camp. Wendover Society used their talents to set the scenes. It is not easy in a village hall but the scene changes were smooth and effective and well designed and constructed.
The costumes were gorgeous and authentic throughout.
The weak script did not help much and some of the actors struggled with their parts but in a small company the director has to cast whoever is available. Lighting by Nik Pearse and sound by Matthew David was all competent. Bruce Smith provided the microphones and his expertise to help with the production.
There was the usual audience participation song which was well received and sung with gusto and everyone appeared to have a good time.
