MARLOW Jazz Club is very excited about its next gig on Tuesday, January 24 at the Royal British Legion Hall.
It has managed to secure a date with the highly acclaimed Five Star Swing Big Band, who are regular favourites on BBC Radio 2 and also BBC TV.
The 13 piece outfit is led by Chris Smith, who formerly toured the world in the Herb Miller band, with his wife Simone playing alto sax and also providing some of the vocals. Simone came to fame as a star of the Ivy Benson orchestra. The band feature classic tunes from the Swing Era greats, including Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington and Count Basie, and with vocal tributes to Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra amongst others. A PREVIOUSLY Unseen Collection of John Piper paintings will be unveiled for the first time at an exhibition at the River and Rowing Museum in Henley in March.
It comprisises a collection of more than 30 Piper works, which were acquired by the late Michael Gyselynk, who lived in Lower Shiplake.
It will be the first time the collection has been displayed together and will run from March 3 to October 8.
THE Chesham Arts Festival will run from February 13 to 19 at The Elgiva, Ley Hill School and Whitehill Centre. It is an annual competitive festival with classes for music, speech and stage dancing.
There will be piano classes on the 13th, vocal classes on the 14th and stage dancing from February 15-19.
On the 19th the final concert will beat 7pm. Spectators are welcome during the festival week for a small entrance fee per session.
