Garsington Opera Prepare for first class opera on your doorstep at this internationally famous opera. Woburn Country Fair Three large arenas featuring all day entertainment, attractions, dare devil stunts and country sports create a wonderful show piece. To complete the family theme, lots of children’s fun and activities have been included to keep them entertained for the whole day long. Water balls, puppet shows, bouncy castles, face painting, make and take and maybe learn to handle a gundog, fish and fly a hawk. This year see’s first class entertainment provided by some of the country sides top sports names and organisations. Making an appearance in the main arena is National Horse Boarding Championships. This extreme country sport combines the excitement of horse racing with mountain boarding and guarantees an action -packed spectacle for contestants and spectators alike. Chiltern Open Air Museum Special Community Event A special community event called ‘Bricks, Bodgers & Broomsticks’. The event, organised by the Chilterns Commons Project, is a fun hands-on history day about the Chilterns commons and the roguish and resourceful characters that lived on them. There will be lots of things to do and see including have-a-go at traditional crafts such as bodging, candle-making, or building a hovel. There will be sheepdog demonstrations, food-foraging experts, re-enactors, plus a wandering minstrel and storyteller. Visitors can also explore the Museum’s 33 historic buildings, working Victorian farm and beautiful woodland. Come and Hear One Family's Story of Dealing with Learning Difficulties Learning Difficulties is a huge subject. It can be overwhelming for families to learn that their child has been "labelled" with dyslexia, dyspraxia or ADHD. It can also be reassuring to hear from other families who have had the same experience and to learn how they dealt with it. At a series of events that Dore is hosting around the country, you will have the opportunity to hear from parents and young people about their own experiences of learning difficulties. Today you can hear Ben’s story from his Mum, June, and learn more about learning difficulties from the Dore doctor, Dr Sara Chamberlain. There will be time for questions, too. Family History Talk: Problems in London Ancestry London has always been the capital city and the biggest city in England. Apart from permanent residents many of our ancestors spent just a few months or years there in their youth. Michael Gandy's talk explains the special problems and what we can do about finding out where our earliest Londoner had come from. Open afternoon Chiltern Music Therapy will be hosting an afternoon of live jazz and acoustic music. Chiltern Music Therapy provides a Children and Young People’s service and an Adult and Older People’s service, helping those with learning disabilities, Autism, mental health problems, behavioural and emotional difficulties and those in palliative care. They also offer a specialist Brain Injury and Neuro-disability service throughout the Chilterns. They will be serving strawberries and cream and will have lots of activities lined up throughout the afternoon for everyone to get involved with.
