Wycombe Wanderers manager Matt Bloomfield said he was ‘pleased’ with his side’s resilience after they earned their first league win of the season.

The Chairboys defeated promotion favourites Rotherham United 2-0 at Adams Park with debutant Cameron Humphreys and Kieran Sadlier getting on the scoresheet.

This ends a run of two back-to-back 3-2 league defeats for the Buckinghamshire-based team, which were inflicted by Wrexham and Birmingham City respectively.

The result lifts Wanderers to 16th at this very early stage of the campaign, and Bloomfield was gleefully pleased with his team’s performance.

He said: “I’m really pleased with the performance as we dominated possession and territory and I’m very happy with how we attacked the game.

“We knew we had to make it a football game with the ball in play as much as possible, and I’m pleased with the way the boys went with their task.

“I think that the resilience boys showed was brilliant, as you have to stand up and be counted for when you play against Rotherham.

“We knew we were going to have a tough game as Steve [Evans] has recruited really well as they have got players who have played at a good level but we stuck to our task and I’m pleased with how we played.”

Bloomfield was also full of praise for Cameron Humphreys, who scored on his Wanderers debut as a second-half.

The 20-year-old joined the Chairboys on loan from Premier League Ipswich Town after must interest from other EFL clubs.

He continued: “I’m so happy for Cameron.

“It’s the fourth time I’ve tried to sign him.

“The first was at Colchester and that was never going to happen, last summer, then in January and now he is here.

“He’s a very good player Cam as he’s highly thought of at Ipswich, and thank you to Kieran [McKenna] for allowing us to come here.”
