Matt Bloomfield has shared his thoughts on Wycombe Wanderers’ 2-0 home victory against Cheltenham Town.
Two goals in the final five minutes from Joe Low and a stunner by Bez Lubala secured the Chairboys their first league triumph in four attempts.
The win has lifted them into 14th on 41 points for the season.
Here’s what the gaffer had to say about the following:
On the chances created and the overall performance
“I thought we created some really good opportunities in the first-half but rushed a little bit in the final third, where he didn’t quite have the composure to get the goal.
“But, we did hit the bar through Dale Taylor.
“There was a bit of a lull after the penalty but that Cheltenham a spring in their step, so I thought we needed a bit of fresh energy, as we’ve had such a busy schedule recently.
“I’m pleased with the impact the substitutes had.”
On Franco Ravizzoli’s league debut for Wycombe
“Franco was very good in goal – He didn’t have a lot to do but I thought his kicking was excellent.
“He is very calm, trains consistently, and he did everything that was asked of him.
“I’m also really pleased with the clean sheet.”
On goal scorers Joe Low and Bez Lubala
“Joe has been due a goal! He scored a few at the start of the season so it was good to see him get one.
“He attacks the ball well and he’s finished it well and with Bez, well, what I can say?
“In the time he’s been here, he’s made such a huge impact and he’s one of the best lads you’re going to meet.
“He always trains well, has a huge smile on his face and he’s a brilliant finisher.
“What a goal it was it was lovely for him to celebrate that with the fans here.
“We knew that we wanted to get people who were willing to take shots and we saw Bez’s stats with his goals at Burton, and we wanted him.
“He’s willing to shoot and with the free-kick (which he scored from), Tommo (assistant manager Richard Thomas) works so hard in getting those set-pieces right so it was great to see it come off.”
On Freddie Potts’ penalty miss
“We hope that every penalty goes in so it’s disappointing when we miss, but, I’ll back anyone willing to step up and take on from the spot, and it’s not an easy thing to do.
“It is what it is, and we need to make sure we’re better moving forward.
“The resilience of the boys to put that to one side and find two goals late on was fantastic.
“We’ve had a lot of young players come and join us to learn their trade, so there’s been a lot of change.
“We’ve had tough moments to deal with earlier on in the season, but the boys care and I’ve been proud of how they have conducted themselves.”
On the ‘fixture congestion’
“It’ll be a busy April but I’m glad about that because if we wanted to go for in the Bristol Street Motors, we knew it’d cause fixture congestion.
“I’d rather be in this position than have loads of free midweeks with nothing to play for.”
