Wycombe Wanderers made it six league games without a win as they lost 2-1 at home to bottom-side Reading at Adams Park.
The result, which secured the Royals’ first away league victory since November 2022, saw the Chairboys perform in a passive and tepid manner that played into the visitors' gameplan.
In another very slow start, Wanderers bossed the ball and nearly took inside the opening 15 minutes when Ryan Tafazolli headed over a Harry Boyes corner.
There was a limited attacking threat from both sides but out of nothing, the Berkshire side took the lead in very fortuitous circumstances.
Max Stryjek inexplicably gave the ball away to Femi Azeez who ran at the Wanderers defence, before he fired a very tame shot at goal.
Wanderers’ number one left it which allowed Sam Smith to get the faintest of touches to put the Reading ahead.
That was the striker’s fourth in as many games.
However, Wycombe responded almost instantly thanks to an incredible goal by Killian Phillips.
A long ball into the box was knocked down by David Wheeler, and the Irishman produced a brilliant Cruyff turn before bending his effort into the bottom left-hand corner.
It was a fantastic way to score your first goal at Adams Park.
But on the stroke of half-time, Reading went ahead once more through a familiar face, as Lewis Wing’s piledriver was converted into his own goal by Ryan Tafazolli.
The tempo increased in the second period as David Wheeler hit the post, whilst Garath McCleary and Kieran Sadlier also missed the mark.
Wanderers threw the kitchen sink but missed placed passes, shots going wide and losing the loose balls was the theme of the day.
Wanderers drop into the bottom half of the table whilst Reading remain bottom.
The result was compounded with boos being heard at full-time due to the result.
