Wycombe Wanderers have moved a place outside the top six following an entertaining 2-2 draw with Peterborough United at London Road.
The away side began the encounter the better of the two teams and nearly took the lead after just three minutes, when Dale Taylor’s header was saved by Nicholas Bilokapic.
Despite not having a league match for two weeks, Wanderers were showing their opponents no mercy as Killian Phillips, Freddie Potts, Luke Leahy and Jasper Pattenden were causing the home side numerous problems.
This was primarily due to the Chairboys closing down their opposition with a high press.
Wycombe continued to boss the ball and play, as they had another glorious attempt to go a goal up on 20 minutes.
This time, it was Brandon Hanlan who tried his luck, but after facing Bilokapic in a one-on-one situation, the Australian keeper won the battle and denied the ex-Bristol Rovers man.
However, 10 minutes later, Hanlan found himself on the scoresheet.
Joe Low’s brilliant through ball inside the Peterborough penalty area took two players out of the game, as he managed to find the striker unmarked from close range.
Hanlan took a touch to steady himself before firing it low and hard beyond a helpless Bilokapic.
It was his third goal of the season, his second in the league, and his first on the road in the division since March.
However, Darren Ferguson’s side equalised just 10 minutes later as Joel Randall scored directly from a corner.
The ball was whipped into the danger zone and flew over a scrambling Max Stryjek.
It was his second in as many games for the Posh.
Then, right on the stroke of half-time, Ephron Mason-Clarke produced a moment of brilliance to give the home side the lead.
After Wanderers lost the ball outside the Peterborough box, the Posh broke and the 24-year-old curled in a beautiful 20-yard strike for what was also his third of the campaign.
Wycombe began the second half the better of the two and were close to finding their leveller on four occasions in the opening 10 minutes.
Taylor’s shot was tipped over, Hanlan’s attempt was saved, Phillips’ effort was blocked off the line and Boyes’ strike was comfortably gathered by the keeper.
And their continued persistence eventually gave them their leveller on 62 minutes.
A Leahy free-kick was converted into his own by Mason-Clarke via close-range header.
Wanderers continued to press in the latter stages as Phillips and Taylor went close, but it finished 2-2.
The result means it was the 16th time in 32 matches between the two teams that three or more goals had been scored.
Wycombe remain eighth and next face Bolton Wanderers at home on October 24.
