Ex-Wycombe Wanderers winger Paul Smyth has added another brilliant goal to his ever-growing collection of stunning strikes.

The 26-year-old, who spent one season with the Chairboys during the 2019/20 campaign, bagged an incredible volley in Northern Ireland’s 3-0 victory over San Marino in their Euro 2024 qualifier on October 14.

The wonder goal was only the second time he had scored for his country and his first since netting on his debut back in March 2018.

He has only gained five caps since.

Northern Ireland manager, Michael O’Neill, said of Smyth: “He’s had to be patient.

“I gave him his debut against South Korea in 2018.

“We are five years on and his appearances have been limited since then but he’s in a good place at his club.

“He’s got himself back into Championship football, he’s played a lot of times for QPR this season.

“I know at his club he sometimes plays a lot at wing-back, but in that 4-3-3 not only does he give you width and crosses, but he also has an eye for a goal.

“It was a brilliant finish for his goal.”

Smyth scored one goal in 21 appearances during his solitary season at Adams Park, where he was an unused substitute in the club’s League One play-off final victory over Oxford United in July 2020.
