Wycombe Wanderers’ opening match of the season ended in disappointing fashion as they lost 3-0 at home to Exeter City.
Prior to kick-off, there was a sense of optimism and excitement around Adams Park following a summer of huge progress in terms of new signings, facilities, décor, kits, catering and memorabilia, with the team sheet even getting a new font.
But inside seven minutes, the Chairboys were 2-0 down and conceded a penalty in what was a disastrous start.
And it began when Jack Aitchison put Exeter ahead inside 24 seconds.

A well-worked move down the right found the former Forest Green Rovers man who slotted the ball under Max Stryjek on his Grecians' debut.
Three minutes later, it was two as Will Aimson capitalised on some very poor Wanderers defending.

Aimson prods home following a goal mouth scramble following a corner.
An unreal start at Adams Park.

The captain prodded home from close-range after a scramble in the Wycombe box as he celebrated his first goal for the club.
Things got even worse as on seven minutes, Wycombe conceded a penalty.
Demi Mitchell was fouled by Stryjek but the Polish keeper made up for his error with a brilliant save to deny Sam Nombe’s spot-kick.
It repaired some of the damage but in truth, Wanderers were flat and couldn’t get going.
The Chairboys improved during the second half as Josh Scowen, Sam Vokes, Kane Vincent-Young and Jack Grimmer all had half-chances, but nothing of great value that tested Viljami Sinisalo in the goal.

James Scott with a well-taken finish.
The game is very much over now.

And after pushing several numbers forward, this allowed Exeter to grab their third through substitute James Scott in the final 10 minutes.
The result means Wycombe have lost for only the third time on the opening day since 2013, with the result being Exeter’s second win at Adams Park.
The first was on New Year's Day 2013 when both sides were in League Two.
Up next for Wanderers is a short trip to Milton Keynes in the League Cup on August 8.
