Both Jason McCarthy and Nick Freeman believe ‘there’s lots to play for’ in Wycombe’s final fixture of the season against Portsmouth, despite both teams missing out on the play-offs.
The Chairboys and Pompey can finish in either eighth or ninth place, with Wanderers currently occupying the latter, whilst the Fratton Park side are in the former.
And both players are aiming to secure what would be the club’s first win in three after two below-par performances against Lincoln City and Cheltenham Town respectively at home by an aggregate score of 5-0.

Speaking on their side’s trip to Portsmouth, Freeman said: “We need to finish the season off strongly – that’s the aim.
“We’ve trained at Adams Park for the past few days, we’ve had a good week's worth of training and we’re well prepared.
Had a good chat with Jason McCarthy and Nick Freeman today.

Both spoke about the season, Portsmouth, plus more.
Also, with 48 games, Freeman has featured the most times for Wycombe than any other player this season.

“The gaffer wants a good performance so we can take that momentum into the next season and there is also a bonus that if we do win, we can jump above Portsmouth too.”
McCarthy added: “They always give me a bit of stick when I’m down there [being an ex-Southampton player] so it’s always going to be tasty.

“But there is lots of motivation as we want to end the season on a high.
“We’ve worked on lots of practical things we can work on with the gaffer and we want to see the results of what we’ve been doing on Sunday.
“There’s lots to play for and as a professional footballer, you want to win every game.
“Portsmouth are a big club, Fratton Park is a great stadium, so it will be a big scalp if we can go down there and win.”
