Wycombe Wanderers’ play-off push has come to an end as they fell to a 2-0 home loss against mid-table Lincoln City.

The defeat at Adams Park, coupled with Derby County’s 1-0 home victory over Burton Albion, means the Rams currently occupy the final top six spot on 75 points.

And with two games remaining with the Chairboys currently on 68 points, the maximum Matt Bloomfield’s side can get this campaign is 74.

The match began with Lincoln scoring with the game’s first chance after just seven minutes.

Reagan Poole’s long ball over the top was glanced in by Dylan Duffy, who wheeled away celebrating his first goal for the club following his move to the Imps in January from UCD in the Republic of Ireland.

The Chairboys enjoyed a lot of possession and nearly equalised through a looping Sam Vokes header, but goalkeeper Carl Rushworth was on hand to make a comfortable save.

Lewis Wing also went close, before Nick Freeman forced the keeper into another stop.

After Rushworth took an age to clear the ball, Garath McCleary closed him down and kept the ball in play.

He laid it off to the onrushing Freeman, but his side-footed attempt went straight down Rushworth’s throat.

The opening half was broken up due to numerous stoppages, with two notably being for Wanderers right back, Jack Grimmer.

The Scotsman took a knock in the back in the early stages of the contest before he suffered a head injury midway through the fixture.

His treatment led to eight minutes of added time at the end of the first-half, which saw Lincoln nearly extend their lead twice.

First, Harry Boyes’ bending shot went wide of the target, before Poole’ first time effort also went a few inches past the post.

The second period belonged to Wycombe but they can’t find their equaliser.

Wing saw his first attempt of the half smash into the side netting before his lob was poked over the bar by Rushworth.

McCleary thought he levelled by his attempt was cleared off the goalline, Ryan Tafazolli also went close.

However, the game was effectively over when Lasse Sorensen scored one of the goals of the season.

After Max Stryjek’s clearance fell straight to the 23-year-old from around 60-yards, the Danish midfield player took one touch to steady himself before lobbing the scrambling keeper.

It was Sorensen’s second of the campaign, but it was his second in three games.

Wanderers now sit ninth, with the highest they can finish being seventh.
