Former Wycombe Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth has praised ex-winger Anis Mehmeti after the latter made his full international debut for Albania.

The 22-year-old, who left the Chairboys in January this season to join Bristol City, made his bow for his native country in their 1-0 loss against Poland on March 27.

He played the final 20 minutes of the Euro 2024 qualifier.

Speaking on Mehmeti, who Ainsworth signed as a free agent at Wycombe in the autumn of 2020 when the club were in the Championship, he told journalist Harry Ware: "I called him last week to congratulate him on his call-up.

"I'm proud of a boy who was playing non-league football three years ago.

"He can get to the Premier League, without a doubt."

 "He said 'thanks gaffer', but I just said I've done one per cent, you've done 99 per cent Anis.

"I've just given him the platform.

"To be playing for Albania is a dream come true for him.

"I think he'll be a regular for Albania.

"I'm hoping he goes on to achieve huge things.

"Just not against us on the last day of the season, I've told him."
