Wycombe Wanderers manager Matt Bloomfield believes ‘there were many positives’ in his side’s 2-2 home draw against Milton Keynes.

In a fiery encounter at Adams Park, the visitors took the lead through Daniel Harvie’s early strike before David Wheeler equalised midway through the first half.

The latter then got his second with a well-taken left-foot volley 10 minutes into the second period, before Jonathan Leko levelled with 19 minutes remaining.

Despite dropping two points, Wanderers have now moved two points closer to the play-off places, following Derby County’s defeat against fellow promotion pushers, Ipswich Town.

Bloomfield told the Free Press and BBC 3 Counties Radio: “I think Milton Keynes started off the match well and we were on the back foot early on.

“But we had a spell where we controlled the first half, so when we conceded the second, it was disappointing.

“Especially in the way that we did.

“We played some good stuff today and I believe we’re on the start of going on a little run.

“I have to be pleased with the way we showed character in the way we got back into the game after going a goal down quite early on, and we executed the plan that we had been working on all week.

“We were very good spells but we’re pleased in the way we stuck to our principles in getting back into the game.

“We need to be better at being clinical in our defending as that is important for the rest of our season.

“But there were many positives as we carried a goal threat, and we pressed in the right areas.”

The manager also praised the performance of Wanderers’ scorer in the derby.

His brace were his fifth and sixth goals of the season, making it the best goalscoring campaign for the club.

Additionally, he is now Wycombe’s third-highest scorer this season, behind Lewis Wing (eight) and Anis Mehmeti (nine).

He concluded: “I’m also chuffed for Dave too.

“He’s a big part of what we do and his goals were very well taken.

“But when we go a goal up, we need to try and see the game out.

“He was very close to getting some goals last week against Charlton so for him to get his two goals is brilliant.

“He’s a proper club man, a great character, and is vital to what we do.

“He deserved his goals and he carries a goal threat.”
