Wycombe Wanderers boss Matt Bloomfield has praised the performance of Tjay De Barr following his goal in the club’s 2-1 away loss at Burton Albion.

The 22-year-old (who turns 23 on Monday), played the final 20 minutes after replacing Brandon Hanlan and scored with five minutes remaining with a close-range header.

He had nearly got on the scoresheet moments before with another header, but this one went wide of the mark.

His strike against the Brewers is only his second for the Chairboys but his first in the Football League, and Bloomfield hopes he will add more to his tally before the season is out.

Speaking on the Gibraltarian, he said: ”It’s great to see Tjay come on and get his goal – this is a huge moment for him in his career.

“It’s his first in the Football League and in training, he works so hard at improving at his game.

“He is all action, he is very energetic so we are delighted for him to come on and get his first league goal.”

His previous goal was against Stevenage in the League Cup back in August 2021, which happened to be a last-minute equaliser.

The strike took the tie to a penalty shootout, and De Barr scored the winning spot-kick to send Wycombe into the next round, where they faced Manchester City.
