Fleetwood Town manager Scott Brown has praised the performance of Wycombe Wanderers striker Sam Vokes following the Cod Army’s 2-0 defeat against the Chairboys.

The Welsh forward scored the second goal in the fixture at Adams Park on March 7, but could have easily added more to his tally if it wasn’t for goalkeeper, Jay Lynch.

Additionally, the 33-year-old had several attempts go just wide of the target.

The strike against Fleetwood was his sixth of the season and his second versus the North West club in his career.

Speaking about his display, Brown said: “Later on in the first-half, I think we started to get a good hold of the game and started the second half well.

“We started to use the width of the park, with the two number eights going further forwards and created a good amount of chances.

“We just couldn’t get the ball into the back of the net at that point and then [Sam] Vokes’ chance is a great finish; you can’t take anything away from that as it’s a quick touch and a top finish.

“I think he was the difference between the two sides tonight with his hold-up play and link-up play.”
