Matt Bloomfield’s first home game in charge of Wycombe Wanderers ended all square, as his side battled out a 1-1 draw against Exeter City.
In what a terrific opening 45 minutes that saw 12 efforts get registered, the Chairboys took the lead inside 90 seconds through a well-taken goal by Chem Campbell.
Garath McCleary’s cross was met by the on-loan Wolves man, who tucked away his first-ever professional goal.
The home side continued to have a flurry of chances as McCleary was inches away from making it two, but his attempt hit the post on 23 minutes.
Lewis Wing, Chris Forino, and Sam Vokes all tried their luck, but again, their efforts narrowly missed Gary Woods’ goal.
Exeter arrived at Adams Park with one win in their last five matches, but they showed no signs of falling to Wanderers’ onslaught of attacks.
Demetri Mitchell headed wide moments after Wycombe took the lead before he was expertly denied by Max Stryjek on 15 minutes.
Rakeem Harper, who is on loan from Ipswich Town, also missed the target with a header whilst Harry Kite, who scored against Wycombe in the reverse fixture back in August, also tried his luck.
The second-half was a continuation of the first as both sides had an array of attempts.
Mitchell had two glorious chances to give Exeter the equaliser, but again, his header from close-range went over, whilst a fierce drive from the edge of the box went wide.
For Wycombe, Vokes nearly scored one of the goals of the season after he brilliantly beat two defenders before dragging his shot from a tight angle agonisingly adrift of the target.
Moments before, Campbell forced Woods into a good save.
But Wanderers’ chances went begging as the Grecians levelled on 69 minutes.
Jay Stansfield, who came on for Rekeem Harper, forced Stryjek into a low stop but his save went straight into the path of Kevin McDonald, who equalised from close-range.
McDonald, who has played in the Premier League for both Burnley and Fulham respectively, got his second of the season and his second in two matches.
Up next for Wycombe is Fleetwood Town at home on Match 7.
Attendance: 7,082 (617 away)
