Wycombe Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth has insisted that his team ‘are in a really good place’ after the Chairboys defeated Port Vale 3-0 away from home.
A Brandon Hanlan strike, a Joe Jacobson penalty, and a brilliant finish from Garath McCleary secured the Adams Park side their third win in four matches since the start of 2023, whilst also registering their seventh league clean sheet in 11 games.

The victory at Vale Park also saw youngster Chem Campbell make his Chairboys debut, and Ainsworth believes that the three points at his old stomping ground was the result of an ‘overall brilliant performance’.
He told the media at full-time: “The boys were fantastic, well organised and I don’t think Max Stryjek had a save to make.
"Overall, it was a brilliant performance.
“We did say the Port Vale pitch was difficult to play on beforehand and that we needed to avoid playing in that middle area, and after we contained Gavin Massey with his runs, it allowed us to go forward on the counter.
Brilliant result. So pleased for this group of players and staff. One United group of top people. 💙💙

“They gambled on their attacks and we made sure to get in behind them, and I thought the boys were brilliant in doing that.
“We also saw Chem Campbell come on and he looked exciting too.

“He likes to take players on and we’ll see more of that.
“And even though we’re in a good place, one game doesn’t make a season and we know there is a long way to go.”
Wycombe sit in eighth place, three points off the top six.
