Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth has not held back his relief that the Chairboys do not have another midweek match until the end of December.

The Chairboys defeated Forest Green Rovers 2-0 in their previous fixture on November 12, which is the second of seven consecutive weekends the club will play without a Tuesday night game.

He believes having a full week in between matches will help his backroom staff ‘prep’ better for games, as they aim to secure a place in the top six for a second consecutive season.

Speaking after the away win over the Green Army, he said: “We executed the plan that we put in place.

“You can do training during the week and see it, but when it comes to Saturday and you don’t see it, it’s always a case of why does that happen?

“But today [November 12], we saw what we executed in training if you give me a full week, as I always prefer a full week.

“I hate this Saturday/Tuesday malarky because there is no time to turn around.

“You don’t get any time to prep on teams, especially at Wycombe as we don’t have the manpower to do that and it’s really hard.

“Other clubs can employ three analysts who can do three games ahead.

“We’ve got Josh Hart and me and we work our socks off trying to pick the bones out of other teams to see what we can do, how we can hurt them, and what their strengths are.

“But the performance of the boys has to be their attitude and that they are able to take on what I have asked them to do and this helped us get the result today.”

Wycombe’s next midweek match is away at Plymouth Argyle on Thursday, December 29 at Home Park.
