Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth has reflected on his side’s one and only visit to Forest Green Rovers.

The previous league encounter was on New Year’s Day 2018 when goals from Matt Bloomfield and Craig Mackail-Smith defeated the 10-men Rovers 2-1 at the New Lawn Stadium.

The Chairboys travel to the West Country this Saturday, November 12, in what will be the second time the Buckinghamshire outfit will play in Nailsworth for a league fixture.

Reflecting on the game, Ainsworth said: “I do remember it!

“I think Blooms might have scored there and I remember his celebration where he ran the length of the pitch to the Wycombe fans.

“I think there was sending off for the manager’s son too [Charlie Cooper, son of former manager, Mark Cooper].

“The win was a big moment for us.

“It was during the sticky Christmas period that we get sometimes and we came into the New Year with a bang.

“It was a good game to win and I think we played a corner routine that worked.

“That is hard in the memory banks as you don’t remember all the games you manage, but I do remember that one because that was a really good statement of us trying to find the win.

“It’s a good omen that we were promoted that year, but they are a different side now so we have to make sure that we’re on that and see what we can do against a team that people probably expect us to beat.”
