Gareth Ainsworth has admitted that he ‘hates’ the Saturday/Tuesday schedule as a manager in the Football League.
A common occurrence in the EFL diary sees teams across the Championship, League One and League Two play every three to four days to battle fixture congestion.
Thankfully, Wycombe do not have another midweek game until Thursday, December 29, when they make the 400-mile round trip to Plymouth Argyle.
Gareth Ainsworth with the press: "We want to keep in touch with the play-offs. I'm pretty happy with our position with all the injuries we've had, and we'll get stronger as the season goes on. We're looking forward to Saturday; the boys are focused and ready to go and attack it."

This will be their final game of 2022.
The fixture will also end a run of seven consecutive games where Wanderers will play on a Saturday.
Speaking to the media, Ainsworth said: “As a player, I used to love the Saturday/Tuesday schedule but as a manager, I hate it.
“There is very little planning time and with the pitches getting heavier, the training times, risk of injury, players getting suspended, you’re chopping and changing the team and that doesn’t really help.
Gareth: “It’s a strong league, and we know expectation is high around here because of what we’ve all achieved in the last few years. We have to manage that and not get carried away with a couple of wins or a couple of defeats. It’s a 46-game season and we’ll keep our focus.”

“I am glad however we have got Saturday fixtures for a little while now and we have got to make full advantage now.

“This league is stronger than what people think and I think the expectation is a bit higher than it should be, but, we have got to take full responsibility for that as we have delivered over the last few years.
“We have got to make sure that we know we are striving towards that expectation and step forward on the platform that we have created for ourselves.
“The last few seasons have been brilliant and I want to get into the play-offs again.”
Wycombe’s last midweek match was against Port Vale on November 1, which ended in a 2-2 draw at Adams Park.
