Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth believes his players have ‘gone through the mill’ as he starts to regain players from injury.

Speaking to the press during the week, he revealed that nine first-team players have been absent through short-term or long-term injuries.

Brandon Hanlan, D’Mani Mellor, Ryan Tafazolli, Josh Scowen, Dom Gape, Curtis Thompson, David Wheeler, Sullay Kaikai, and Sam Vokes have all missed matches so far this campaign as Wanderers currently sit midtable.

And despite Jack Grimmer coming off injured in Wycombe’s 1-1 home draw against Peterborough United in the Football League Trophy on October 18, Ainsworth believes this is ‘not too major’, and that he has no fresh concerns going into this week’s derby away at Milton Keynes.

He said: “We lost three on the bounce and we needed to find a method to get out of that and we did.

“With the momentum we have got, we can take them into games and even though we’ve got one of knocks in the squad, we’re pretty good with the squad that we have got but the boys have gone through the mill.

“Whether that was down to the pitch being changed or the prolonged season last season.

“Whatever has happened, we are getting fully fit and a fully fit Wycombe squad can compete with any team in this league.”
