Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth has reiterated that Alfie Mawson is one of the best centre backs in League One.
Following his brilliant performance against Oxford United seven days ago [October 8], the former Swansea City and Fulham defender put in another top-class showing as the Chairboys defeated Peterborough United 3-1 at Adams Park.
Despite going a goal down through Harrison Burrows’ long-range effort, strikes from Garath McCleary, Sam Vokes, and Anis Mehmeti recorded the Chairboys’ first win over the Posh in four years.
Ainsworth has reiterated that Mawson is the best centre back in League One, and that some clubs who rejected him in the summer might regret not signing him. He also praised his calmness for the third goal. What a win #Chairboys

Mawson played his part in Wanderers’ third after Peterborough keeper Lucas Bergstrom went up for a corner in injury time to try and rescue Grant McCann’s men a point.
However, after the ball was cleared, the centre back calmly played through Mehmeti who wrapped up the win with a close-range finish.
Speaking on his performance, Ainsworth said: “What a way to finish the game and I think Alfie Mawson has broken his sprint record.
“It was brilliant from Alfie.
Alfie Mawson. What a special player. One of the best we have seen @ Wyc.

“I thought he could have had a go on his left foot as it was an open goal.
“But he didn’t as he found Anis, and I was praying that Anis scored because the keeper did well to get all the way back but he was probably tired from a 100-yard sprint.
“Alfie was unbelievable, and I am sure his legs are tired after that, but he was so calm.

“Honestly, we have got one of the best centre backs in the league.
“He is sensational, and all the teams that refused to sign him because of whatever reason might regret it because he’s just brilliant.
Alfie Mawson. End of debate. https://t.co/TJNt7a0FAQ

“He is a leader, he has matured so much since he was last here and he’s awesome to have.”
It was the first time this league season that Wanderers had won a match without keeping a clean sheet.
They now move up to 12th in the League One table.
Up next in the league is an away trip against struggling Milton Keynes on October 22.
