Wycombe Wanderers midfielder Dom Gape has revealed that his side have ‘standard that we can’t drop below’, following last week’s 3-0 win over Barnsley.
The 27-year-old scored his first goal in nearly four years in the victory against the Tykes at Oakwell, with his strike coming from around 50-yards out.
On top of his incredible finish, Anis Mehmeti and Nick Freeman also bagged impressive finishes as Wanderers ended their three match losing run in the league with the brilliant victory.

The performance was something that had been missing from the Chairboys squad in some of their games this season, but Gape hopes that the club are now back on track.

Speaking to BBC Three Counties Radio, he said: “We needed [that performance] after the back of Tuesday night [against Exeter] and we will all admit that we haven’t been at the standard we expect of ourselves, but today [August 20] was a marker of a standard that we can’t drop below.
“This was a real Gareth Ainsworth Wycombe performance, working our nuts off for each other, we scored three without a big man up top, and we have proven that we can play.
“G-Mac [Garath McCleary], Wheels [David Wheeler] and Anis did brilliantly leading the line and we’re a real threat going forward.
“We need to build on this momentum where we play a winning side of football which is key.”
On new keeper Max Stryjek, who kept a clean sheet on his debut in the win, added: “I thought he was brilliant.

“I hadn’t seen that much of him to be honest, he has only been in since Thursday but what I have seen is really promising, and it shows what type of character he has to only be in the building for a few days and put in a performance like that.”
Finally, on looking facing Bristol City in the League Cup on Wednesday night at Adams Park, he concluded: “We need to build on the win against Barnsley for what will be a tough fixture against a Championship opponent, but if we turn up and give that same standard of performance then it should be positive from here.”
