Gareth Ainsworth is ‘hoping’ that a new goalkeeper will arrive at Wycombe Wanderers ‘in the next couple of days’.

So far this season, the Chairboys have started with Tyla Dickinson between the sticks, following the departure of David Stockdale to Sheffield Wednesday this summer.

The 21-year-old has played every second of the club’s five games in the league and cup this campaign and has been on the winning side twice.

Dickinson, along with development keeper Josh Blunkell, are Wycombe’s only shot-stoppers at present.

The club were due to sign Nathan Bishop on a season-long loan from Manchester United, but following Dean Henderson’s move to Nottingham Forest, the 13-time Premier League champions are reluctant to let him leave.

He has since been promoted to third-choice goalkeeper, behind David De Gea and Tom Heaton respectively.

However, reports are suggesting that Wanderers are expected to complete the signing of the former Polish Under 19 international, Max Stryjek.

The 26-year-old is currently at Livingston and has played in the Non League for outfits such as Eastleigh and Boston United.

He was also on Sunderland’s books between 2014 and 2019, where he was loaned out to Accrington Stanley for the 2017/18 season, where he played one league match.

Speaking after the defeat against Exeter City on August 16, Ainsworth said: “I am hoping to get a goalkeeper within the next couple of days.

“Tyla has done fantastically well, he is such a great kid and he is gaining experience as well as the others in Jasper Pattenden, Ali Al-Hamadi, and D’Mani Mellor."

On the loss, he continued: “There was a style to the second half, the goal we scored was fantastic and we created some more chances.

“But we looked vulnerable from set pieces, we gave silly fouls away and this is part of the injury-list we’ve got and the short pre-season we had.

“However, they [the wins] will come and I am remaining super positive that we will be right up there come to the end of the season.

“The boys are gutted but I am positive that we will get a result against Barnsley on Saturday.”
